If you have ever wondered whether your voice, fluency, or communication concerns are worth addressing, the answer is almost certainly yes. Here is how to know for sure.
Speech therapy is not just for children. These are the people I work with every week.
You present, lead meetings, or work with clients. Clarity and confidence in how you speak directly affects how you are perceived.
A health event changed your voice or communication. You are ready to work on getting back to where you were, or finding a new normal.
You have learned to work around it, but you are tired of avoiding phone calls, introductions, or speaking up in groups.
Accent, clarity, projection — if people ask you to repeat yourself more than you would like, there are practical strategies that genuinely help.
I hear these often. Here are honest answers.
Most adults who come to me have never worked with an SLP before. The free 30-minute consultation is specifically designed to introduce you to what therapy looks like, answer your questions, and figure out together whether it is the right fit. You are not committing to anything by showing up for that first call.
You do not need to have a diagnosable condition or a dramatic event behind your communication challenges to benefit from therapy. If something about how you speak is holding you back, limiting your confidence, or affecting your daily life, that is enough.
The free consultation exists precisely so you can find out whether your situation is something therapy can help with. There is no minimum threshold of severity required.
Speak for Joy is private pay, which means you pay directly for each session. After every session, I provide a detailed superbill — a receipt with the medical codes your insurance company needs to process an out-of-network claim. Many clients receive partial or full reimbursement depending on their plan. It is worth a quick call to your insurer before your first session to ask about out-of-network speech therapy benefits.
If you are unsure whether the cost makes sense for your situation, the free consultation is a good place to discuss what a realistic therapy plan might look like.
Research consistently shows that telehealth speech therapy produces outcomes comparable to in-person sessions for most adult communication concerns. You can see and hear each other clearly, share materials, and work through exercises in real time — everything that matters in a session translates to video.
There is also a practical upside: your home environment is where you actually communicate. Working on your voice or fluency in the space you spend most of your time can make the work feel more natural and transfer more readily to everyday situations.
Every therapy plan is different, but a typical session includes a brief check-in on how the week went, focused work on your specific goals using evidence-based techniques, and time at the end to review home practice strategies. Sessions are 45 to 60 minutes via secure video.
The first few sessions after your initial assessment are about building a clear picture of where you are starting from and establishing what progress looks like for you. From there, each session builds on the last. Most clients start noticing meaningful changes within six to eight weeks.

"If you are reading this page and wondering whether to reach out, that wondering is the answer. People who are not ready do not end up here. The free consultation is just a conversation — come as you are, with whatever questions you have."
